There is so much goodness within chapter 10, but today I want to focus on the story of Martha and Mary.
Martha invites Jesus into her house. Martha’s sister, Mary, is there also. Mary who is sitting at Jesus’ feet is listening to His Word and Martha is distracted with much serving. So, Martha goes to Jesus and complains that Mary is not helping her and tells Jesus to tell her sister to help her.
I love verse 41 and 42, they say, “And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
How often do we get “worried and troubled about many things” in our lives?! It is so easy to get distracted and allow the cares of the world to drift us away from what is important in life.
BUT, you can see within these verses that what Mary has chosen is “needed” and is “that good part”.
So, what is that one thing that we need? Intimacy with Jesus. Jesus/God wants us to spend time with Him!
Also in the verse it says, “Mary has chosen that good part,”. So, what is the good part? Time with The Lord is good!! Mary “sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His Word”.
How often do we take the time to sit and just truly focus on what the Lord’s Word says. How often do we read and pray to grow in intimacy with God?
And one of the greatest parts within that verse says, “which will not be taken away from her.” Time with the Lord will not be taken away.
One reason I am so thankful for this challenge is because it allows us to take time out of our day to have intimacy with Our God. Reading His Word and growing closer and closer daily with the Lord. I hope you all are encouraged and growing daily with God during this month of reading through Luke.
