There is so much we can learn from this chapter! God’s Word is alive and active and I love growing and learning from it!
So within this chapter I’m going to look specifically into verses 22 through 25. These verses are talking about Jesus and his disciples traveling across a lake and while they do that Jesus falls asleep and a windstorm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water and they were in jeopardy. They go and wake Jesus up and they are afraid and they tell Jesus they are perishing. Jesus then rebukes the wind and raging waters and then there was a calm and he asks them, “Where is your faith?”
Life is like this. We are just walking through life obeying God and then we hit circumstances or struggles in our life where we feel like Jesus is “sleeping” or “not there”. And we get distracted with all the craziness of this world. Our focus shifts from obeying God and following His Word to the chaos of life and how we are going to survive and make it through this next season. We try to handle it ourselves and control things. And things just get more and more out of control and finally we put our focus back on the Lord and we respond similarly to how the disciples responded to Jesus. We say to God, “Lord, I don’t think I can do this. I’m not going to make it.”
The minute that we come to the Lord and surrender our chaos He responds. Just like He responded with the disciples. The first thing He did was rebuke the wind and raging waters. Verse 24b says, “And they ceased, and there was a calm.” The Lord does that for us in our life. He gives us a calm within our chaos. He is the peace that passes all understanding. He is the joy in the crazy!
I pray for this for all of us. That through our storm we can sense the calm of Jesus in our lives and trust and rely on His Word and His plan.
Hope this encourage you all today! Can’t wait to continue on through Luke before Christmas!!
