I don’t really have any deep long thoughts on this chapter, but little tidbits of thoughts spread out within the verses. So here it goes…
Verse 2: I didn’t understand what dropsy was. So I looked it up and the definition of it is an abnormal swelling of the body. I can imagine this was probably so uncomfortable.
Verse 5 (And also chapter 13:15): These verses mentions how the Pharisees and Lawyers will provide and help their donkey or ox, but won’t allow someone to be healed on the Sabbath. I thought it was noteworthy that Jesus was trying to show them that their logic was flawed.
Verse 7-11: It is so important to be humble. These verses show us that when we are humble and lift up others who are around us we are showing value and honor to them. They feel loved and thought of and seen.
Verse 14: I find it really cool to think about and interesting that our blessings will come at the resurrection of the just!
Verse 18-20: I noticed all the excuses being made. This made me wonder how often I may do this?
Verse 23: The word that stood out to me here was the word, “compel”. I had to look it up to understand it better. It means to urge upon. I also thought a good way to say it is, to try as hard as possible to encourage people to come to the knowledge of the love of Jesus! It’s such a strong word and I think it makes the point of what Jesus is trying to say within the parable.
Verse 34 and 35: I love the example of salt. It makes a lot of sense to me and it is a very good illustration. Also, I love the ending of 35 which says, “…He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” This phrase is also in Revelation when John is writing to the churches.
I pray the Lord uses His Word to encourage and lift you up today! See you all in the next chapter!!
