It was a long one today! But we are nearing the end of the book of Luke. This chapter had sweet moments and sad moments. Let’s take a look at verses 54-60.
“Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.” But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.” But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.”
luke 22:54-60 NKJV
I thought it was interesting that they took Jesus to the house of the high priest. I always thought that he went to the temple (and I believe he does go to the temple later). And I didn’t realize that these people were just chilling within the courtyard of the house of the high priest. I found this to be so odd. It would be like taking Jesus into your house and then people hanging out in your front yard. Just thought it was an interesting thing to point out. Never remembered thinking about it too much before, but it stood out to me today.
Let’s finish up the story with verses 61 and 62.
“And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So Peter went out and wept bitterly.”
Luke 22:61-62 NKJV
This makes me think about many times that I make a mistake and the Lord is showing me and when I finally come to the realization of what I have done I’m so frustrated at myself and I cry. And then it takes time for me to forgive myself for the stupid thing I have done. It’s a process. We can see that Peter is remorseful and upset with what he did. I pray the Lord helps each of us to see our mistakes and sins and that our hearts would hear and be ready to make it right.
I hope you all are enjoying this adventure! We are almost through! See ya in the next chapter!
