I’m specifically looking at verses 46 through 49. These verses are talking about where our foundation is.
Do we have a foundation in Christ?
Is our foundation in the world?
What does our foundation look like?
These are super important questions and these verses give us a pretty straightforward answer.
In verse 47, it says “whoever comes to Me…” I believe that coming to the Lord is a crucial step for the foundation of our lives. This is the first step anyone would make to follow Jesus. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. If you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died on the cross to save you from your sins, and that He rose again and is alive today sitting at the right hand of God then you have a foundation that is solid in Jesus. Jesus is the rock of our foundation. He is what keeps life stable when storms come in our life – because let’s face it……storms are always surrounding us.
Verse 47 goes on to say, “…and hears my sayings and does them…” As believers in Jesus we now seek to hear His Words and we do them. Within this foundation of belief in Jesus we are now building upon it and growing our relationship through prayer and reading scripture and obeying what the Lord says throughout our life. This is crucial to build on our foundation in the Lord so that when troubling times come we are not shaken because our foundation is so strong!
As we continue on it says in verse 49, “But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
This is someone who hears the Gospel of Jesus Christ and does not do anything. It says that this person has no foundation and the storms come into this persons life and their life falls apart and the last line expresses that the ruin was great. I pray that if you are reading this and do not know Jesus as your personal savior that you would come to know him and start your foundation today with Jesus and let’s build together as we continue through Luke before Christmas!
I’m so excited to continue reading through Luke with you guys! Hope the message today was encouraging and uplifting to your hearts!
